Plumber in Amherstview, ON

Amherstview at a glance

Amherstview is a community in Loyalist Township on the north shore of Lake Ontario, right beside Kingston's western boundary. It's named for Amherst Island, directly to the south, and it marks the eastern end of the Loyalist Parkway, Highway 33. When the community was first laid out in the 1950s, the name was usually spelled "Amherst View".

What that means for your plumbing

A community that began in the 1950s means many homes are now 50 to 70 years old. Houses from that era can have galvanized supply lines and cast iron drains reaching the end of their life. If your water pressure is falling or drains are slow throughout the house, see older home plumbing.

By the lake

Homes on the lakefront side take the full force of winter wind off Lake Ontario. Pipes along exposed walls and in crawl spaces are the first to freeze; see frozen pipe repair.

Fairfield House

Fairfield House, built in 1793 by one of the first Loyalist families to settle the area, still stands in Fairfield Park on the shore. It served as the family home and, for a time, partly as a tavern, and is now a museum. The park stretches more than 600 metres along the lake, and its limestone shelf rock draws swimmers and scuba divers. The Henderson Recreation Centre houses the library, a pool and an arena. That same limestone sits under much of the area, and if your water leaves white scale on taps, see water softeners.
