Odessa is a village between Napanee and Kingston in Loyalist Township. It's home to Ernestown Secondary School, which serves about 650 students, and to the township offices and a fire hall on Main Street. Its water tower, the highest point in the village, can be seen for several kilometres.

Millcreek, the Crimean War and the Babcock Mill

The village was first called Millcreek. In 1855 its postmaster renamed it Odessa to mark the 1854 British siege of the Black Sea port during the Crimean War. Odessa calls itself the "home of the Babcock Mill", which was once powered by Millhaven Creek. In 1972 the community's water supply was studied, which led to plans for infrastructure improvements.
